Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?

The best way to begin therapy at InterSessions is to call the clinic at (734) 207-5207 and speak to someone at the front desk. They will have you answer some questions for a pre-intake and then provide your information to management who will match you up with the counselor that best fits your needs.

What if I’m not a Christian? Can I still receive counseling at InterSessions?

Absolutely! Our mission is to help those in our community that are in need of services, regardless of their religious background. Though we specialize in integrating a Biblical view with psychological methods, we value and respect our client’s decision when it comes to that integration.

I’m worried about seeing a therapist that is not licensed. Are the Graduate Student Interns qualified and capable to meet with me?

Our interns are highly trained prior to seeing their first client at InterSessions. Once working in the clinic, they receive constant, daily oversight and guidance from licensed clinic managers and by a doctorate-level psychologist on a weekly basis. However, if you prefer a licensed therapist, one can be requested.

I want therapy, but my busy schedule makes therapy seem difficult to fit in. What can I do?

Our clinic tries to be as flexible as possible in meeting client needs, even when meeting in person is difficult. One of the ways we’re flexible is through offering Teletherapy services through Zoom (which is encrypted to ensure privacy) so we can still reach you, even if coming to us is difficult. And if weekly sessions seem unmanageable, we’re happy to work with you to make sure that you receive the care you need despite the busyness of life.

I met my therapist and I’m not sure we connect well. Should I look elsewhere?

Our focus and mission as a clinic is your care and mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. This means finding someone that fits well with you and we recognize that sometimes people don’t connect and that’s ok. We will always do our best to accommodate you and find a therapist that fits well for your needs. We strongly encourage you to advocate for your care as we advocate for you as well!

Does interSessions accept insurance?

Currently we do not accept insurance, however we are currently working through the process of having our licensed-practitioners be able to accept insurance.
